Dayao County, Yunnan Province has embarked on a new “Silk Road”
Dayao County, Yunnan Province has a long history of planting mulberry and raising sericulture, and is known as the “Hometown of Sericulture”. Since 2021, Dayao County has continued to increase its support for the sericulture industry. The county finance department has supported sericulture farmers, large sericulture households and related enterprises in policies such as ordering silkworm seeds and selling cocoons, promoting the stable and healthy development of the sericulture industry in the county. As of August this year, 11,485 farmers in 54 village committees, 535 villager groups, and 7 towns including Shiyang and Jinbi in the county have planted mulberry and raised silkworms, with an area of 88,000 acres of mulberry gardens. In the spring, summer and autumn of this year, Dayao County raised 51,145 silkworm seeds, produced 2,160 tons of fresh cocoons, and achieved an output value of 120 million yuan. The people’s enthusiasm for planting mulberry and raising silkworms continues to rise. As the area of the mulberry garden continues to expand, it has made a strong impression on Dayao County’s “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”.
