Yuli County’s “Super Cotton Field” reaped a bumper harvest, with yields per mu increasing by 149.6 kilograms compared to last year

On November 10, good news came out of Yuli County. The 3,000 acres of “super cotton fields” planted and managed by two “post-90s” people had a bumper harvest. The average cotton yield per mu reached 403.6 kilograms, 149.6 kilograms higher than last year.

This year is the second year that Ai Haipeng and Ling Lei, employees of XAG Agricultural Aviation Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “XAG Technology”) in Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, have challenged the planting and management of “super cotton fields”. The two have carried out more scientific management and improvements in cotton planting, pest and disease control, and intelligent fertilization. The unmanned management rate of cotton fields has increased from 60% last year to 80%.

In April last year, Ai Haipeng and Ling Lei relied on technological means such as agricultural drones, agricultural Internet of Things, and smart agricultural management systems to challenge two people to plant 3,000 acres of “super cotton fields.”

Local farmers who have been growing cotton for decades shook their heads after hearing this: “3,000 acres of cotton land requires at least 20 to 30 people to manage it. How can it be done by just two young men with no farming experience?”

The “Super Cotton Field” project applies agricultural Internet of Things technology to modern agricultural machinery, agricultural technology, and cotton field management, realizing one-stop operations of mechanical farming, mechanical sowing, intelligent management, and mechanical harvesting.

After last year’s wind disaster, the “Super Cotton Field” has made great innovations in overall wind protection measures this year. It uses the “cotton and wheat separate sowing” technology to artificially create “miniature wind protection fortifications”, that is, spreading film to sow wheat in mid-March. , wait until early April to sow cotton. At this time, the wheat has grown to more than 10 centimeters, forming a wind-blocking wall, which will reduce the impact on cotton seedlings when strong winds come.

“Water and fertilizer management is the focus of the cotton planting process, with the largest investment in manpower and funds.” Ai Haipeng said that how to reduce labor costs, reduce investment, and ensure the healthy growth of cotton has become the focus of their work.

In the “Super Cotton Field”, XAG Technology has deployed more than 100 soil sensors. When the soil moisture reaches the lower limit, it will automatically alarm and transmit the data to the automated irrigation system. The system will automatically open the field’s intelligent electric valve for timely irrigation; When the soil moisture reaches the upper limit, the water supply will be automatically stopped.

With the help of intelligent high technology, the two young people can easily manage the cotton fields through mobile phones or computers without going to the fields in person.

“Compared with traditional cotton fields, the investment in the ‘Super Cotton Field’ this year has been reduced by about 400 yuan per mu in terms of labor, water, fertilizer, and pesticides.” Ai Haipeng said happily.

“We have proved with facts that intelligent high-tech digital agriculture can greatly reduce the manpower required compared to traditional management methods, and it has become a visible reality for one person to cultivate a thousand acres of cotton fields.” Ai Haipeng said.
