Shanlian Town is the birthplace of Chinese Hubi culture and silkworm culture. It is known as the “Capital of Hubi and Silkworm Flower Holy Land” and has two national intangible cultural heritages: “Hubi Production Technique” and “Hanshan Silkworm Rolling”. . Silkworm culture has a long history, and its traditional sericulture skills are included in the provincial intangible cultural heritage list. During the Qingming Festival every year, silkworm farmers go to Hanshan Mountain in Shanlian Town to pray, forming a unique folk activity of “Hanshan Rolling Silkworm Flowers”, which was listed as early as 1998. Recognized as a national key festival, it can be called the largest Silkworm God Festival in the country.
The activities of this Hanshan Silkworm Flower Festival are divided into six chapters: “watching traditions, attending appointments and praying, interpreting aesthetics, exploring food, music carnival, and appreciating art”. Shao Gendi, 68, is an authentic old silkworm farmer. On the day of the event, she also took her family to Hanshan to “roll silkworm flowers.” She told reporters that since the “Hanshan Silkworm Flower Festival” was launched, tourists from other places have come in droves. “This is our traditional culture. The more people come, the more we can carry it forward.”
Traditional folk customs are an important carrier of inheriting local history and culture. In recent years, Huzhou has actively explored the cultural connotations behind traditional folk customs and promoted the integrated development of cultural tourism. Currently, there are 74 folk festivals in Huzhou.
