Tangzhang Town, Tongshan District, Xuzhou is known as the “Hometown of Silkworms” and “The First Sericulture Town in Northern Jiangsu”. It has a history of more than 50 years of large-scale mulberry planting and sericulture. The town’s mulberry garden area is about 15,000 acres. Spread across 12 villages, it raises 23,000 silkworms annually, produces 1.8 million kilograms of fresh cocoons and 130 tons of white silk every year. It has the largest silk quilt production base in the Huaihai Economic Zone. In order to further promote the diversified utilization of mulberry trees and improve the production capacity of spring silkworms to achieve the purpose of improving quality and efficiency, recently, with the strong support of the Tongshan District Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, National Sericulture Industry Technology System Scientists Researcher Zhao Weiguo and Researcher Shen Zhongyuan visited Tangzhang Town The Tongshan Demonstration Base of the Northern Jiangsu Comprehensive Experiment Station conducted sericulture technology training. More than 160 people from sericulture cooperatives, sericulture family farms, and large sericulture households in Tongshan District, Xuzhou City participated in the training.
Based on the current development trend of the sericulture industry and the actual situation of Tongshan District, a wonderful explanation was given focusing on the structural adjustment of the sericulture industry, technical specifications for diversified utilization of mulberry trees and cultivation, and comprehensive prevention and control of silkworm diseases. Participants said that this training included both theoretical knowledge and practical cases, with pictures and texts, easy to understand and gained a lot. The successful holding of this training will play a positive role in promoting the diversified utilization of mulberry trees in the region, the safe and efficient production of spring silkworms, and the highquality development of the sericulture industry in the future.
Recently, scientists provided on-site guidance services in the mulberry garden, small silkworm co-breeding room, and large silkworm room of Jiamei Family Farm in Tongshan District. In view of the practical problems of the farm’s year-round sericulture layout, mulberry orchard pest and disease prevention and control, serious occurrence of silkworm diseases, and insufficient technical force, we proposed reasonable spring pruning of mulberry orchards, strengthened mulberry orchard pest and disease prevention and control, silkworm excrement and mulberry branch waste Specific technical measures such as treatment, disinfection and disease prevention of silkworms have helped the farm solve practical difficulties, improve the yield and quality of mulberry leaves, prevent the continued occurrence and expansion of mulberry diseases and silkworm diseases, and improve the quality of spring silkworm rearing.
In the past, relying solely on planting mulberry, raising silkworms and reeling silk, the comprehensive benefits were not high, and the enthusiasm of silkworm farmers in planting mulberry and raising silkworms was frustrated. At present, Xuzhou Tongshan District is focusing on “One Tree Mulberry” and has developed a series of products based on dried mulberries, mulberry wine, mulberry sprouts, and mulberry leaf tea. However, there is a problem of lack of dedicated mulberry tree varieties. Therefore, this spring provides a series of products suitable for the local area. Two varieties of mulberry leaves, tea and mulberry trees and four varieties of fruit mulberries are processed to promote the local development of the entire industrial chain and increase the added value of products.
