The sericulture industry is one of the backbone industries for rural revitalization and enrichment of people’s income in Yilong County, Nanchong City, Sichuan Province. This year, Yilong County adopted the “enterprise + large household” development model to focus on co-cultivating small silkworms. In early spring, after about eight days of intensive co-cultivation, the young silkworms can walk out of the constant temperature room and enter the silkworm sheds of major silkworm farmers to start the journey of “spinning silk”.
At the “Silkworm Co-breeding Center” in Longjiadian Village, Tonggu Township, workers who specialize in cultivating small silkworms are, according to technical requirements, evenly spreading finely chopped mulberry leaves on the third-instar silkworms that are about to leave the constant temperature room and transporting them. Get outside. Later, a large sericulture farmer drove a tricycle to collect the third-instar silkworms in an orderly manner.
Zhao Hua, a major sericulture farmer in Longjiadian Village, Tonggu Township, raised 44 silkworms in early spring this year. The young silkworms that had been intensively bred had just been transported back to the sericulture greenhouse. The sericulture technicians immediately came to guide her in scientifically expanding the seats, dividing the silkworms, and adding quicklime. Bleach powder is used for disinfection.
“After the silkworms enter the greenhouse, the technical staff explain every aspect of raising them very clearly to us. We feed the silkworms according to the requirements. We believe that the silkworms we raise will be very good, and the cocoons they produce will be white and big. “Zhao Hua said.
Sericulture production must be taken early and proactively. This year, Yilong County’s early spring silkworm co-breeding work is undertaken by four mulberry planting and sericulture enterprises including Bubisi, Yushan, Aotesi and Hengfengxin. After the baby silkworms are distributed to the silkworm sheds, the competent department immediately follows up with technical guidance to ensure thequality of the cocoons and increase the profits of the cocoons.
Lei Chao, director of the Specialty Products Station of the County Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, said: “As the saying goes, ‘70% of the harvest will be achieved by raising small silkworms.’ We will work with enterprises to implement dedicated personnel to enter the silkworm sheds to guide silkworm raising techniques so that large households can master them. Methods to reduce silkworm diseases and improve the success rate of sericulture. In addition, we vigorously promote automated cluster facilities and equipment to reduce labor, ensure the quality of silkworm cocoons, and ultimately achieve the goal of increasing production and income.”
