They are already 20 centimeters tall, with lush branches and leaves. “I planted 15,000 acres of cotton this year, all of which are ‘Xinluzao 82’ and ‘Xinluzao 78’. These two varieties are really good, and the germination rate is quite good. The cotton is growing well at present, and the yield per mu is expected to exceed 500 Kilograms.” Pan Tianyu was full of confidence in a bumper cotton harvest.
Cotton is grown every year, and there is technological innovation and promotion every year. Pan Tianyu said that relying on the convenience brought by mobile informatization construction, cotton watering, fertilizing and other operations can be performed on mobile phones, which not only saves costs and increases efficiency, but also injects new momentum into the modernization of agriculture and rural areas.
Changji Prefecture is an important high-quality cotton production base in Xinjiang. This year, Changji Prefecture has fully implemented the autonomous region’s “Implementation Opinions on Promoting the High-Quality Development of the Cotton Industry”, continued to optimize the cotton production layout, continued to do a good job in the selection and breeding of new cotton varieties, and comprehensively improved Scale, mechanization, and intelligence will accelerate the transformation and upgrading of cotton from quantity to quality. At present, the cotton planting area across the state reaches 1.9314 million acres, and high-quality cotton varieties account for more than 85%.
Variety is the key factor that determines cotton quality. Changji Prefecture has established a list of main varieties grown in the same ecological area. The number of main varieties recommended in each county and city is controlled within 3, and the number of main cotton varieties recommended throughout the state is controlled within 7. This will improve the quality of cotton from the source and promote the high-quality development of the cotton industry.
While controlling the source of seeds, our state also pays attention to controlling technology and services. In terms of optimizing the layout, Changji Prefecture actively guides cotton farmers to orderly withdraw from suboptimal cotton areas, risky cotton areas and cotton production areas without guaranteed water resources. Cotton production is concentrated in advantageous production areas, and high-standard farmland construction projects, water and fertilizer integrated intelligent Irrigation and other projects are included in the construction of high-quality cotton bases to help cotton farmers increase production and income. At present, Changji Prefecture has formed a high-quality cotton base focusing on Manas County, Hutubi County, Changji City and Changji National Agricultural High-tech Industry Demonstration Zone. In terms of green planting, the Changji Prefecture Joint Scientific Research Institute has gone deep into high-quality cotton bases to carry out scientific and technological demonstrations and technical services, comprehensively implement large-scale, mechanized, intensive and intelligent planting models, and continue to improve satellite positioning and navigation precision sowing technology and water-saving irrigation. Technology, the promotion and application of machine-picked cotton technology, the entire process of cotton production has been mechanized, and it has steadily developed towards high quality, high yield and efficiency. In terms of operation and management, Changji Prefecture encourages cotton processing enterprises to sign seed cotton purchase agreements with large producers, cooperatives and other production entities, establish a new production and processing model of “one factory, one product”, actively connect with domestic high-end cotton product manufacturers, and promote high-quality cotton order production, purchase and sales model to achieve unified variety planting, unified technical management, unified mechanical harvesting, and unified processing and sales.
