Chongqing Qianjiang: The first batch of silkworm cocoons were weighed this year
The “Three Summers” season is also the season for harvesting silkworm cocoons. In Qianjiang District, Chongqing, the national sericulture biological industry base, the first batch of silkworm cocoons were purchased this year. Under the influence of multiple favorable factors, not only the amount of cocoons produced has increased, but the income from sericulture has also increased.
On June 12, in Zhuoshui Town, Qianjiang District, silkworm farmers arrived at the cocoon purchasing station early. The staff were strictly following the standards, weighing, grading, and pricing the cocoons according to their quality. It was a busy harvest scene.
In Qianjiang District, Chongqing, silkworms can be raised in up to eight batches depending on the altitude and season. The first batch of cocoons every year is often of the best quality and the purchase price is relatively higher. This year, Qianjiang District continues to provide income insurance and production subsidies to sericulture farmers. Relying on sericulture technicians and intelligent co-breeding factories for small silkworms, the success rate of sericulture has been improved. The cocoon yield per unit area has increased by 10% compared with the same period last year. With the recovery of the cocoonsilk market, the purchase price of each kilogram of silkworm cocoons has reached about 50 yuan. Zhuoshui Town alone is expected to earn 2.75 million yuan in revenue from silkworm cocoons in the first quarter.
Qianjiang District is the national sericulture biological industry base. It currently has 95,000 acres of high-quality mulberry gardens, covering 80% of townships and streets. Driven by the national “Eastern Mulberry Movement to the West” strategy, more than 20,000 local people are engaged in the sericulture industry. The amount of cocoons produced has ranked first in Chongqing for 12 consecutive years, and the annual comprehensive output value of sericulture has reached 1 billion yuan. According to the production plan, the first batch of silkworm cocoons is expected to be purchased this year, which is 24,000 tons, and the income of silkworm farmers is more than 60 million yuan.
