Ningbo clothing and apparel companies have abundant orders but shortage of labor
Ningbo’s private garment industry, which has developed rapidly in recent years, has withstood the impact of the financial crisis. Many companies have bucked the trend and thrived, with abundant orders. Recruiting workers has become a difficult problem before them.
Dozens of private companies set up booths, and groups of people poured into the recruitment hall. This is an employment negotiation meeting held specifically for migrant workers in Ningbo. However, what puzzled me was that the booths of several companies that came to recruit workers were deserted, with almost no one paying attention.
Personnel from the re-established enterprise who came to recruit told me that it is difficult to recruit sewing workers. There is a shortage of people now. We need as many as we can. Orders have been placed until May or June. What they require of a sewing worker is proficiency. They said that the garment factory was too busy and it was impossible not to work overtime. They couldn’t bear the hardship now, that’s all.
It is understood that a skilled worker can generally earn 2,000 to 3,000 yuan a month.
Then the author went to the booths of several textile companies for interviews. Some companies have already placed orders until August, but they are struggling to recruit people. Chen Faquan, chief of the Public Service Employment Section of the Ningbo Municipal Employment Bureau, told the author that workers in the garment industry are relatively mobile, and some migrant workers do not like the working environment of garment enterprises, which has resulted in the current labor shortage in the textile industry. Therefore, it is recommended that migrant workers find employment first and then choose a career.
Chen Faquan said: Textile companies have been in short supply of workers in recent years. Judging from the current situation in Ningbo, as long as they are not overly picky, there should be no problem.
