Let’s take the polyester industry as an example. Due to the sharp increase in the prices of various auxiliary materials this year, the processing cost of polyester products has increased to 100-150 yuan/ton, and the increase in processing fees for each product ranges from 10-20%. This does not include transportation. Increase in costs. The author consulted relevant people in the polyester industry and learned that the increase in the cost of auxiliary materials is mainly due to the following aspects:
1. Coal
In April this year, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the National Energy Administration and the State Coal Safety Administration jointly issued the “Notice on Further Standardizing and Improving the Order of Coal Production and Operations”, requiring coal mines across the country to operate no more than 276 hours a year starting from 2016. working days to promote coal mine production reduction.
As the vanguard of the country’s supply-side reform, the reduction of coal overcapacity has achieved significant results this year, driving coal prices to continue to rise. Thermal coal prices have risen from about 300 yuan/ton at the beginning of the year to more than 600 yuan/ton currently. According to the approximate price of polyester products per ton Calculated by consuming 140-150 kilograms, the increase in coal prices means that the production cost per ton of polyester products will increase by 45-55 yuan.
2. Paper tubes and cartons
At the end of October, the Ministry of Environmental Protection issued the “Notice on Doing Solid Work on Air Pollution This Winter and Next Spring”, requiring all localities to ensure that they complete the environmental air quality improvement goals and strictly implement air pollution prevention and control measures. On the one hand, they must ensure that industrial enterprises meet emissions standards. On the other hand, it is necessary to implement industrial off-peak production, and key industries involve papermaking, which has led to a decline in the operating rate of many paper mills in the north and a tight supply of packaging base paper. On the other hand, affected by the weather, the recycling volume of waste paper has also declined, resulting in the recent decline in paper tubes and cartons. Prices have increased significantly.
Taking the polyester filament factory as an example, a rough calculation shows that the recent price increase of paper tubes and cartons has reached 40-50%, which translates into an increase of 30-40 yuan in production costs per ton of polyester filament.
3. Various packaging accessories and additives
In addition to coal and paper tubes, various other machine auxiliary materials have also increased to a certain extent, such as foam boards, wooden frames, packaging bags, oils, catalysts, etc., which have also increased by 5-20%.
It is also worth mentioning that for polyester bottle flakes factories, the sharp increase in IPA prices this year has been particularly obvious in terms of cost increases. The current external quotation of IPA is US$1,850/ton, which is equivalent to RMB 15,500-16,000 yuan. / ton, an increase of 7,000-8,000 yuan/ton compared with the beginning of the year. If calculated according to the 2% addition ratio of the bottle flake factory, the cost of IPA alone will increase to about 150 yuan/ton.
Generally speaking, with the overall recovery of bulk commodities this year, the prices of raw and auxiliary materials have increased to a certain extent. Although the product processing range is constantly expanding, for polyester companies, what needs to be paid attention to is the various processing costs in the actual production process. It is also constantly rising, so the actual benefits still have to be discounted to a certain extent. Don’t let the joke at the beginning of this article come true.
