Turkmenistan will stop exports of raw cotton and increase production of cotton products
Turkmenistan Oriental Network reported on February 10 that the President of Turkmenistan announced that cotton production will increase to 1.25 million tons in 2020. Previous news said that Turkmenistan will completely stop the export of raw cotton to promote the production and supply of cotton products. The profitability of Turkmenistan’s textile industry is second only to the oil and gas industry, and it can create a large number of jobs. Improving cotton processing capabilities will promote the employment of its citizens and the export of high value-added products.
Recently, the Ministry of Construction of Turkmenistan announced two large-scale cotton gins with an annual output of 30,000 tons and a cotton seed processing plant with a daily output of 300 tons in the Giokodepe District of Ahal Region. Project bidding aims to improve raw cotton processing capabilities.
Last year, Turkmenistan’s cotton yarn production increased by 15.9% year-on-year, cotton cloth production increased by 18.8%, and knitwear and fabric production increased by 38.9%.
