Zhang Xian said that against the background of shrinking overall foreign trade demand and weakening expectations, my country’s overall foreign trade export volume was basically flat from January to May this year, growing by only 0.3%. Among them, the cumulative exports of textile and clothing reached US$118.2 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 5.3%, which is weaker than the export of the entire foreign trade. However, the year-on-year decline in my country’s textile and clothing exports has also gradually narrowed in the past two months, indicating that my country’s textile and clothing exports are struggling to recover. In terms of major categories of commodities, textile exports are inferior to clothing. In terms of export markets, exports to emerging markets are generally better than exports to traditional markets such as Europe and the United States.
Judging from the current orders and industrial transfer, although orders from domestic factories in the first half of this year are still sluggish, they are slightly better than in the fourth quarter of 2022. In the first half of this year The capacity utilization rate, order scheduling, and orders on hand of overseas factories are all better than those of domestic factories in the same period. The number of companies planning to add overseas production capacity this year is significantly higher than last year. Therefore, the speed of industry and order transfer this year will continue to accelerate.
When Zhang Xian talked about the foreign trade situation in the post-epidemic era, he said that this year’s foreign trade situation is extremely severe. On the one hand, foreign demand is weakening, deflation in the United States and Europe and other countries, and financial risks in developed countries are increasing. On the other hand, residents’ consumption The weakening has led to a lack of factory orders and increased inventory pressure. Therefore, the expected goal of foreign trade this year is to promote stability and improve quality, maintain international market share, and improve the overall competitiveness of foreign trade.
Looking to the future, Zhang Xian pointed out that international economic and trade frictions and geopolitical risks will likely become the norm. “De-Sinicization” is the main uncertain factor in future foreign trade exports. Neighboring countries have reduced their dependence on China, and the trend of industrial transfer is obvious. Faced with this severe challenge, my country’s textile and apparel industry must actively leverage its industrial chain advantages. On the one hand, it must promote a steady increase in the international share of high value-added products, and on the other hand, it must avoid a rapid decline in the international share of mid- to low-end products. .
