Cotton in Shawan City enters a critical period for field management
At present, cotton has reached a critical period of field management. Recently, when I walked into the cotton fields of Niejiaqu Village, Shanghudi Township, Shawan City, I saw rows of green cotton seedlings swaying in the wind, full of vitality. Due to the special climate this year, the growth and development of cotton is 15-20 days later than last year. Although it is almost mid-June, some cotton with weak growth has not yet entered the budding stage. Members of the “Visiting Huiju” team of Niejiaqu Village, the township of the Municipal Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, gave full play to their business advantages and organized cotton growers to conduct “pulse inquiries” on cotton growth conditions through on-site analysis and theoretical knowledge explanations.
Villager Ren Quan planted 180 acres of cotton land this year. Under the guidance of agricultural technicians and his careful management, his cotton is growing well, which makes Ren Quan full of confidence in this year’s cotton harvest.
Ren Quan, a villager in Niejiaqu Village, Shanghudi Township, said: “Regarding the recent high temperature weather, I was wondering whether water should enter the cotton fields. After listening to Secretary Sun’s lecture today, I decided to start with the 100 acres of cotton seedlings in the afternoon. Inject water and drip fertilizer to promote the growth of cotton seedlings. I will continue to do a good job in cotton field management and increase cotton yield.”
Sun Xiaoli, leader and first secretary of the “Visiting Huiju” work team in Niejiaqu Village, the merchant village of Shawan City’s Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, said: “The cotton bud stage is a critical period for increasing cotton yields. Water and fertilizer management and chemical regulation need to be strengthened. We must prevent and control diseases and pests in a scientific, reasonable and timely manner. It is understood that the cotton planting area in Shawan City’s merchant district township is 126,000 acres. The town has given full play to its resource advantages, continuously improved the level of agricultural modernization development, and achieved agricultural scale, planting mechanization, and intensive management.
