How does China accelerate its sprint towards becoming a “chemical fiber power”?

In the past few years since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, although my country’s chemical fiber industry has experienced a new round of adjustment cycle, it has still achieved outstanding results. In the face of the “new normal” of economic development and the new industrial situation, my country’s chemical fiber industry has actively promoted structural adjustments, transformed development methods, and overall maintained a stable and rapid development momentum.

At present, the chemical fiber industry has become an important pillar industry for improving the overall competitiveness of my country’s fabric industry and an industry with international competitive advantages. It is an important part of my country’s strategic emerging industries. Chemical fiber products have been widely used in traditional fabric work clothes, home textiles, as well as national defense, military industry, transportation, energy, medical and health and other fields. my country has become a country with a wide range of high-tech fiber (including bio-based chemical fiber) production varieties; my country’s conventional fiber ranks first in the country in terms of multi-functionality, high performance and low cost; my country ranks first in production capacity and potential consumption of high-performance fiber. The production and application technology of some high-tech fibers have reached international levels and can partially meet the needs of national defense industry and aerospace. To use the words of industry authorities, our country is accelerating towards the goal of building a “chemical fiber power”.

The industrial structure is constantly optimized

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, my country’s chemical fiber industry has made steady progress. Data from the China Chemical Fiber Association shows that in 2013, my country’s chemical fiber output was 41.2194 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 7.9%, and total profits were 25.978 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 18.26%. The industry average profit margin was 3.6%. In 2016, my country’s chemical fiber output was 49.43 million tons, accounting for 70% of the total chemical fiber. Chemical fiber accounted for 84% of my country’s total fabric fiber finishing. The chemical fiber industry achieved main business income of 766.28 billion yuan, year-on-year. An increase of 3.71%, achieving a total profit of 36.64 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 19.9%, and a sales profit margin of 4.78%.

In recent years, the structure of my country’s chemical fiber industry has been continuously optimized, and industrial concentration has been further increased. At present, the production capacity of chemical fiber companies with a production scale of more than 200,000 tons/year accounts for about 70% of the total production capacity of the industry, an increase of 4 percentage points from the proportion in 2013. The quality and added value of chemical fiber products continue to improve, and the product structure is more suitable for market demand. The current differentiation rate of chemical fiber products is about 60%, a significant increase from 2013. From the perspective of raw material matching, the localization rate of PTA and caprolactam has increased significantly. Leading companies such as Shenghong Group, Rongsheng Petrochemical, and Hengli Group are actively promoting the construction of integrated refining and chemical projects, further forming a chain from upstream refining to spinning. Complete the industrial chain, improve the synergy benefits of the industrial chain, and improve overall competitiveness.

In recent years, the self-sufficiency rate of PTA raw materials has increased significantly. Hengli Petrochemical has become a well-known PTA production enterprise.

In terms of bio-based chemical fibers, my country has made important progress in new technology research and development and industrialization. Lyocell, bamboo pulp, hemp pulp, polyethylene terephthalate (PDT), polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT), polylactic acid (PLA), chitosan, protein lamination and other bio-based Chemical fibers have been industrialized, and major varieties such as seaweed fiber and bacterial cellulose fiber have made breakthroughs in key technologies for industrialization.

The progress of high-performance fibers is an important indicator of a country’s progress in new fiber materials. Since 2007, my country’s high-performance fiber industry has made rapid progress, especially major breakthroughs in industrialization technology.

Taking polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber as an example, in recent years, my country has made breakthroughs in dry-jet and wet-spinning raw silk spinning technology and achieved diversified progress in raw silk. At present, my country’s carbon fiber products have covered multiple series such as high-strength, high-strength medium mold, high-strength high-modulus, etc., and product brands have been continuously enriched. Among them, T700 grade carbon fiber has achieved stable production and has strong market competitiveness. The performance of T800 grade carbon fiber is basically consistent with similar foreign products. M30, M35 and M40 grade carbon fiber can meet the application needs of the domestic market. It is particularly worth pointing out that in 2016, my country achieved the production line of 1,000-ton carbon fiber production line, and at the same time, my country’s civil carbon fiber enterprises achieved profitability for the first time.

Carbon fiber products.

On September 1, Wanwei Composite Materials was successfully listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange and became a “Chinese carbon fiber stock.”

<p clasBreakthroughs have been made in common key technologies such as the development of 10,000-ton domestic PBT continuous polymerization equipment and fiber products, the development of waste polyester bottle flakes liquid phase viscosification/homogenization direct spinning industrial polyester filament and equipment development, and obtained the " The first prize of Science and Technology Progress Award for "The Finish of Cloth".

In terms of corporate development, in recent years, a number of leading recycled polyester companies such as Luyu Environmental Protection, Haiyan Haili, and Longfu Huaneng have made rapid progress. Hainan, which focuses on the research and development and production of chitosan fiber A number of regenerated cellulose fiber companies such as Smol and Baoding Swan, which have successfully localized lyocell fiber, have also made important achievements. The regenerated fiber products and regenerated cellulose fiber products they produce have not only been highly recognized by domestic and foreign customers. , and also made important contributions to easing the pressure on my country’s resources and environment and reducing dependence on fossil resources.

It is particularly worth mentioning that the China Chemical Fiber Association has focused on promoting the “green fiber” logo certification work in the past two years, involving bio-based chemical fibers, recycled chemical fibers, and solution-dyed chemical fibers. At present, two batches of products from 17 chemical fiber companies have obtained this certification. Next, the China Chemical Fiber Association will also start the work of tagging “green fiber” products in all downstream links.

In order to support chemical fiber companies in strengthening basic research and green manufacturing, the China Chemical Fiber Association and Hengyi Group have set up the “China Chemical Fiber Association·Hengyi Fund” and joined hands with the leading recycled polyester company Zhejiang Luyu Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. has set up the “China Chemical Fiber Association·Luyu Fund”. The foundation organizes the selection and commendation of the “China Chemical Fiber Association·Hengyi Fund” outstanding academic paper awards every year, and organizes the “Golden Key to Green Chemical Fibers” Award” recognition. In 2016, Greenspace Fund also launched the “Comprehensive Utilization Project of Waste Workwear from Beijing’s Public Transport System” to scientifically recover and recycle waste workwear from Beijing’s public transport system, achieving good social and economic benefits.
