NFPA 70E Employee Workplace Electrical Safety Requirements Standard 2000 Edition
NFPA 70E describes electrical hazard threats in the workplace. NFPA 70E requires the employer to document workers’ susceptible live contacts when it has been determined that workers will be working within the breakdown protection boundary.
NFPA defines legal electrical exposure levels based on the distance of a worker’s face and chest from potential arc sources while performing specific tasks. Workers should use fire-resistant protective clothing and personal protective equipment, and should wear equipment with an adequate level of protection based on the level of prone electrical contact for the specific job.
Work involved in 70E
In industrial substations, residential or commercial buildings Install conductive materials and other electrical equipment on objects
Connect equipment to power supplies
Install other outdoor conductive materials
| Category | NFPA 70E Requirements |
| Mobility and Visibility | When employees wear fire-resistant, When burning or treating protective clothing, the protective clothing will cover all flammable clothing and allow the wearer to move and have good visibility. |
| Body protection | During any possible contact Workers working in places with arc flames should wear fire-resistant protective clothing. |
| These protective clothing can be made into shirts and pants, or jumpsuits, or A one-piece jacket and trousers, or a coveralls and jacket for maximum protection. | |
| Outer layer | Jacket worn over FR clothing, waterproof Outer layers of clothing such as clothing also need to use fire-resistant materials |
| Bottom layer | The underlying fabric worn next to the body (underwear) should avoid using fibers that can fuse. Wearing base layers that will not catch fire or melt and drip during exposure to electrical arcs and related heat hazards can provide additional protection. |
| Coverage | Protective clothing should cover as completely as possible Potentially hazardous areas. |
| Care and Repair | All Personal Protection Equipment should be maintained in sanitary and trustworthy conditions. |
| Personal protective equipment is often used together with personal protective equipment as a system to provide appropriate protection. | |
| Layered | For additional protection FR and natural fiber garments can be used in the layering system. |
| A typical layering system can include an undershirt, a shirt and pants and One-piece protective clothing. | |
| Special protective equipment may be used for specific jobs. |
