Functional textiles usually refer to textiles with other special functions beyond the warmth, covering and beautification functions of conventional textile products. Such as common anti-static, washable and wearable (no ironing), anti-shrink, anti-moth, waterproof and anti-fouling. Anti-wrinkle, anti-pilling, etc., as well as flame retardant, anti-ultraviolet, far-infrared, electromagnetic shielding, antibacterial, deodorizing and deodorizing, anti-radiation, high moisture absorption, etc. Some of these textiles with special functions only have a single function, and some have The superposition of several functions makes it a multifunctional or composite functional textile.

At present, there are generally two ways to achieve the functionality of textiles.

First, use certain special fibers and functional fibers to develop and produce textiles with corresponding functions. For example, new composite functional textiles are developed using functional fibers such as antibacterial fibers and flame-retardant fibers as raw materials.

At present, the functional fibers developed in my country mainly include: flame-retardant fiber, conductive and antistatic fiber, radiation-proof fiber, far-infrared fiber, UV-proof fiber, Negative ion fibers, antibacterial and deodorizing fibers, photocatalytic fibers, scented fibers, color-changing fibers, magnetic fibers, etc. These functional fibers provide strong raw material support for the development of functional textiles. Use these functional fibers to produce textiles that meet market demand. It will be a major idea for new product development in the future.

The second is to carry out functional finishing of textiles, that is, to use finishing agents on fibers, yarns or finished fabrics to perform functional finishing, coating or modification, etc. Post-finishing methods give the product the required functions. For example, durable oil-resistant and water-repellent fabrics finished with organic fluorine, waterproof, windproof and breathable fabrics produced with polytetrafluoroethylene coating, antibacterial fabrics finished with antibacterial agents, etc.

The durable flame-retardant fabrics produced by the city’s textile industry are treated with post-finishing flame-retardant processes, and the permanent flame-retardant fabrics are made of aramid or modified acrylic cotton fabrics; The anti-static fabrics produced mainly use conductive fibers embedded in the fabrics; other functional fabrics such as acid and alkali resistant fabrics, anti-UV fabrics, oil-resistant and water-repellent fabrics are mostly processed by post-finishing processing.
