Korla: New cotton is growing well and cotton enterprises are undergoing maintenance and repairs
In late July, the Korla region of Xinjiang continued to have fine weather, which was conducive to cotton growth. A local cotton farmer said that cotton growth this year is faster than that of the same period last year. If there is no adverse weather impact later, this year will be a bumper harvest.
In view of the early growth and development of cotton and the current climate characteristics of sustained high temperatures, relevant personnel from the Agricultural Technology Extension Service Center said that current cotton field management should be aimed at building a high-yielding population structure, promoting concentrated maturation, and reducing bud shedding, and scientific and reasonable drip irrigation Fertilizer and water not only satisfy the growth and development of cotton, but also prevent the buds from falling off due to high temperature and drought. If conditions permit, the frequency of fertilizer and water dripping must be kept up. At the same time, the amount of fertilizer and water must be guaranteed to ensure that fertilizer, water, and temperature are coordinated. After cotton is topping, chemical control must be carried out in a timely and appropriate amount to create a group structure that is ventilated, light-transparent, concentrated and mature, and convenient for mechanical harvesting. Chemical capping must provide supporting management of water and fertilizer before and after capping, and water and fertilizer must keep up after chemical capping. It is understood that due to the influence of high temperature weather, there are many insect pests in local cotton fields. Cotton farmers should spray insecticides in time to ensure the normal growth of cotton.
Hail occurred in some towns in Korla City on July 19. Fortunately, the hail particles were small, lasted for a short time, and had little impact on cotton. The person in charge of a local ginning factory said that the purchase price of seed cotton this year is expected to be 6.5-7.2 yuan/kg. As of now, equipment upgrades and maintenance work in 2022 at some local ginning plants have been carried out.
