Due to the continuous high temperature and drought in July and August, the current overall growth of transplanted cotton and wheat cotton is not as good as that in good weather years. The symptoms are short plant height, few bolls and small girth. Especially when wheat and cotton are harvested in the later stage, the appearance is weak. At present, due to the cooling and rainfall, the upper branches, leaves and flower buds are showing signs of recovery, but it is too late, and the late cotton bolls have the effect of increasing yields. Not obvious.
At present, early-stage transplanted pot-raised cotton has seen fluffing out, 50% of which is high-temperature forced ripening, and 50% is natural fluffing. The overall quality is poor, and it is gray-white cotton below grade 4. The cotton bolls in the middle and upper parts are generally knotted and the bolls are small. If the weather is normal, cotton bolls are expected to start to bloom in mid-to-late September.
The yield and total output will be reduced by 10-15% than expected due to high temperature and heat damage. If the subsequent weather is good, the yield of transplanted cotton with strong compensation ability will be about 175-200 kilograms. The harvested wheat cotton may not yet reach this level, and the quality is slightly inferior to normal.
Due to the sharp decrease in the cotton planting area in the old main cotton-producing areas such as Suyan, Sutong, Xuhuai Liansu and other places, the level of production management is extensive, and the small and scattered fragmented growers are not very concerned about the market trend, but they are also looking forward to it High price point. As the prices of local agricultural products such as grains, oils, pig cocoons, fruits and vegetables have been rising in recent years, farmers are more hopeful that cotton prices will be high. From the perspective of comparative benefits of grain and cotton, if the price of seed cotton in the mainland this year is lower than 9-10 yuan/kg, it will still be unattractive to farmers. Due to the small total amount of cotton resources and fewer purchasers, it will be difficult to form a batch of new cotton on the market in Yancheng, Jiangsu from September to October. Most farms and retail investors will choose to sell it all at once.
