According to a report by the Zambia Daily Mail on May 30, Zambia’s cotton output is expected to reach 117,000 tons in 2016/17, an increase of 1,000 tons from the previous year. The main reason for the increase in production is suitable climatic conditions.
But at the same time, as many farmers switched to planting higher-priced cash crops, the number of Zambian cotton farmers decreased by approximately 22,676 from the previous year to 254,884 in 2016/17. Zambia’s cotton output is expected to reach 117,000 tons in 2016/17
