Nike invests 700 million to build Asia’s largest logistics center in Suzhou

The financial turmoil has not stopped multinational companies from investing in China. Yesterday, Nike announced that it would invest US$99 million (equivalent to RMB 673.202 million) to build a new Asian logistics center in Taicang, Jiangsu, laying a solid foundation for future expansion in China.

The logistics center has a total area of ​​120,000 square meters and is located in Taicang Economic Development Zone, Jiangsu Province. The initial project of the completed logistics center will sort and distribute footwear, clothing and equipment products. Taking into account the further development of Nike’s business in China, the design of the logistics center also reserves room for expansion to cope with the further development of Nike’s business in China, including the possible entry of sub-brand products. The project started in the spring of 2009 and is planned to be put into use in the third quarter of 2010. By the early second quarter of 2011, the entire project will be put into use.


Information disclosed on the website of the Jiangsu Provincial Development and Reform Commission shows that “after the completion of the project, the total number of incoming and outgoing warehouses will be 240 million items per year.” Wei Hanting, vice president and general manager of Nike China, pointed out that the delivery time after the new logistics center is completed It can be shortened by up to 15%.


Currently, the Nike brand has seven logistics centers. The two largest centers are located in Lakdal, Belgium, Europe and Northridge, Memphis, USA. Other centers are located in Shelby, Memphis, USA; Scarborough, California, USA; Tomisato, Japan; and Incheon, South Korea.
